How to Read a 410a Pressure Gauges

How to Read HVAC Gauges

The HVAC gauges and AC hoses are colour coded

The manufacturers colour coded the exteriors of the HVAC gauge (compound gauge and high pressure gauge) to distinguish between high force per unit area and low force per unit area gauges.

The depression pressure gauge or compound gauge is color coded blue and the high pressure level gauges are color coded cherry. Don't confuse this with the manifold gauges assembly (body). Information technology's not color coded. The AC gauge hoses are color coded in blue, yellowish, and red.

The AC guess hoses port are not color coded, merely the hose is color coded. The blue hoses are used to connect the manifold to the depression pressure side (cardinal air units suction line).

The color coded carmine mark the high force per unit area gauges and it's connected to the air conditioner unit discharge valve or liquid line valves. Some manufacturers even colour code the manus valves.

Refrigerant line valve

The manifold approximate uses flexible hoses with connector on both sides. These hoses are label with maximum pressure level in PSI or bar. This mean that if someone used the wrong hoses with the wrong pressure level it volition outburst.

The compound gauge – located in the left hand of HVAC gauges

The chemical compound approximate is mounted on the left side of the air conditioning gauges. The compound gauges allow the HVAC technician to measure both pressure. The force per unit area above atmospheric pressure and vacuum pressure (accident atmospheric pressure).

Here is what compound guess looks like:

How to use chemical compound judge (low pressure gauge)

This chemical compound guess is a R-22 guess (At that place is a R410A, 134A compound gauge).

In this judge we could

read R-502, R-12, and R-22 temperature and force per unit area

.

The pressure scales are in black and in red number. The blackness numbers are in a higher place atmospheric pressure, which range from zilch to 150 pounds per square inch gauge (psig). Withal, I couldn't label all of it, so we just meet zilch to 100 psi in the pic above.

The pressure below atmospheric pressure level is in blood-red number and information technology'south read in inches of mercury (in. Hg). The below atmospheric pressure level is mensurate from zip to thirty in. Hg vacuum.

Here is the actual compound judge:

How to read air-conditioning gauges

Air conditioner gauges are a pressure and temperature charts in a gauges. We'll read information technology the same way we read a pressure and temperature nautical chart.

When every HVAC technician looks at gauges, he or she either looking for pressure or temperature. Allow say we have R -22 refrigerants and the temperature is 33°F, only we don't know the pressure.

Then, nosotros used the pressure temperature nautical chart or the manifold gauges to discover out what is the pressure of R-22 refrigerant. That pressure would be 58.8 psi for R-22 refrigerant.

Here is sample of temperature and force per unit area nautical chart in HVAC gauges:

Pressure and temperature charts

In the temperature and pressure charts higher up, the Temperature scales are on the left side and information technology's in Fahrenheit or Celsius. On the right side we have the difference types of Air conditioning refrigerant pressure.

Here is another instance:

Ex. HCFC-22 refrigerant has a force per unit area of 62.9 psi, what is the temperature of R-22 refrigerant? The temperature would be 36 °F or 2.two °C.

The most valuable information about the manifold judge set is it could read a pressure level and temperature of refrigerant in a close system. All HVAC gauges set read the same mode. Except the pressure level and temperature scales are different for R-134, R-410 refrigerant.

The high pressure gauge

The high force per unit area gauge is mounted on the right side of the manifold fix. This air-conditioning gauges gear up measure pressure above the atmosphere pressure. Information technology reads from 0 to 500 psi and information technology scales is usually in 2-lb. or 5-lb. increments.

The high pressure gauge is label the aforementioned way as the chemical compound (low pressure gauge), except nosotros couldn't read inches of mercury in high force per unit area estimate.

The black number is the PSI scale and the inner number is the refrigerant temperature of R-502, R-22 and R-12.

This is the actual high pressure gauges:

Types of air-conditioning gauges

In HVAC field, we don't have single prepare of HVAC gauges that work on every refrigerant. Information technology saves us money and fourth dimension if we take information technology. Merely, we don't.

The reason we don't take single HVAC manifold guess is because of the refrigerant property. Each air conditioner Freon has a departure pressure, chemic chemical compound, and eddy points. Notwithstanding, that isn't the master factor. It'due south the refrigerant pressure level and it temperatures scales.

Here is air workout manifold gauge nosotros carry:

  • R410A Manifold guess prepare
  • R22 Manifold guess set up
  • R134a manifold gauge set

This means that nosotros can't use R - 22 gauges manifold to read an R - 410A refrigerant. Information technology would damage the R- 22 gauge set due to loftier pressure of R 410 refrigerant.
